As Americans, we are expanding by the year, along with health care costs. Depressing? Yes. Easy to tune out? Sometimes. Back in May, our Government tried hard to reach us by organizing the HBO documentary series, "The Weight of the Nation"; however, the Government hasn't stopped there. More and more programs are being pushed out across the country that is being supported by The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and the 2010 Affordable Care Act. Here are only a few of those changes.
The Government believes in more peace and prosperity to this country because it is a great country that has an amazing free will to make our own decisions when it comes to Health and Fitness. However, we often make wrong decisions and then we look to someone for help. The government, with the 2010 Affordable Care Act, is trying hard to educate us and help us make better choices.

- At the first of the year the government developed a complete health and fitness tracker on the web for free and easy access.
- Food chains were required to display caloric content of their food. While some chains slowly progressed forward, McDonalds finally announced today that they will begin displaying the calories on all their menu signs. In cities such as New York and Philadelphia where posting calorie information is already required, Jan Fields, president of McDonald's USA, notes that the information has not changed what customers choose to order.
- As of August 1st, new and renewing health plans will be required to provide FREE prevention-related health services. The idea is that you are encouraged to get preventive screenings so you catch problems early – before they become serious and expensive problems.”
- To continue to build on this heath care reform, today, Secretary Sebelius announced $12.5 million in grants to the Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC). These Centers will provide counselors to help older Americans and people with disabilities and their family members understand the services and supports that are available to them, and help them sign up and access those services and remain independent. The Money Follows the Personal Program designed to help older Americans and individuals with disabilities transition back to their communities from long-term care institutions.
